Writing Tip #1

When creating characters, make sure their names are pronounceable! It doesn’t matter if you can pronounce it if your readers can’t. Have a name for a character? Let some friends or family read a scene with the name in it. Then get their reactions. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had to rework a name because it was simply unreadable.

Also, for a fascinating discussion on “what’s in a name” check out Matt Wainwright’s recent post: ‘A Rose by any other Name’.
